The Hibernia Deli & Coffee Shop is one of the best places you can eat in Delaware County. The staff are some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. The store is run by a delightful man named Pedro and his family (you can often see his wife, brother, and three adorable children about the store), and to put it quite simply - they blow you away every time. My girlfriend and I have been coming here steadily for over 2 years now, and it has not once disappointed. The food is simply perfection, and they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day, so you are not limited to what meals are available by what time you come in. The Grilled Turkey Sandwich with Cranberry Sauce and Stuffing is my go-to item on the menu, but I've tried just about everything on it, from apple-filled pancakes to the pizza steak, and it's all incredible. Also, if you ask for the Huevos Rancheros, Pedro will whip them up, and you will be amazed! On top of the amazing food on the menu, there is an enormous selection of drinks in the back, as well as an abundance of Irish (And other European) candy bars, crackers, sauces, cookies, and fresh baked goods. It's like an Irish grocery store in there! A specialty store such as this, with such high quality food must surely cost a pretty penny, right? WRONG. Pedro and his family are committed to maintaining their low prices. Even in the midst of a recession, not a single item went up in price. Amazing. These are real people, serving real people real food. Next time you think about hitting up Wawa across the street, make a point to stop in to Hibernia and give something new a try - I guarantee you'll be hooked.

If I could give the Hibernia Deli 10 stars I would. We go there at least once a week and Pedro and Andrea consistently deliver. AND they and the whole staff are consistently friendly and funny! What a gem!

Went here on St. Patrick's Day and again had a great and huge breakfast. Once again my brother got the Ulster FRY (not slam, as mentioned in my previous review, although I think it would be funnier if it were called the Ulster slam), which has grilled brown bread too in addition to the grilled soda bread. I know other people go here -- you can write reviews too. :)

Had the Huevo Mexicanna. The BEST breakfast I have every had. An egg scramble with jalepeno, onion, tomato, chorzio, rice with corn, home made black beans, home made mexican hot sauce, corn tortilla's. OMG, it was a 10 out of 10!

This is one of the last places that my dad and I came to together, so it holds a fond memory for me. Also it is one of the only places in the Tri State area that carries Bueno Bars, which is the most amazing candy bar ever. Imagine Kitkat bars and Nutella getting married and having a baby, that good. Anyway enough about candy bars. The staff here is super friendly, and the food is fantastic. A hidden gem in D Hill, for sure!

This place is just awesome. Simply put, their food is great. We come here about once a week. My boyfriend loves the Old Sod burger, a burger topped with Irish bacon. I tend to either get the half traditional Irish Breakfast or the fish and chips with mushy peas. If I get the fish and chips, I always get a side of curry, their curry is spectacular! We order the curry so often they give us extra to take home. Definitely try this place, and if you love the food, you can bring some home! They have delicious scones you can take home, black and white pudding, beans, peas, Irish groceries, meat pies, even candy from across the pond. Everyone in here is so nice, they deserve your patronage and you deserve their delicious food!

Had breakfast here November 1 for the first time and was really impressed. Our waitress was really friendly and the food was really good with generous portions and good prices. It was busy and there aren't a lot of tables but we were seated rather quickly. I'd definitely visit this place again.
(4)Dominic M.
One of the best, filling breakfasts I've ever had in the U.S. Don't let the exterior and location (a pretty quiet, unassuming block) full you. This place is the real deal.
(4)James M.
Even though it was lunch time, I chose Colcannon & Bangers from the Dinner Special section of the menu, I was really hungry. It was excellent. I get breakfast sandwiches from here regularly, they have never disappointed. Highly recommended.
(5)Patrick A.
LOVE THIS PLACE. Food is great and portions are huge. Prices are very reasonable. Omlets, french toast, hash browns are all excelled. Decor is kitsch but the food more than makes up for it. Sometimes busy but never waited more than a few minutes. Parking is meters but its close to the trolley. Great stop for breakfast with friends.
(4)Mike D.
Great place. They do a wonderful breakfast. Quiet and clean. Ask for the homemade salsa. Very good and they have a Mexican menu that you have to ask for. ASK FOR IT. Great cup of tea as well. Enjoy :)
(4)Ozzie L.
Amazing food!! Great service! Just like being in Ireland!!(except the workers being Hispanic) lol
(5)Megan C.
Yum! What a great Yelp find! Kids loved their reasonable breakfast! I tried the ulster fry and it was so good!
(4)Richard L.
The best breakfast and lunch in Delco, hands down. This place competes with the real McCoy across the pond, if you're looking for an authentic Irish breakfast to keep you going until dinner, look no further. I frequent the Hibernian at least a few times a month and have yet to have a bad experience!
(5)Bob M.
Not sure how to rate this - on one hand, it very much reminds me of a British/Irish breakfast experience in a low-end area in the British Islands, so it's somewhat authentic. OTOH, it's very cramped, small, and parking's a pain. So three stars is a balance ... Four and a half stars for the authenticity, two stars for the small, cramped space & run down feel of the place. They have Irishey breakfast/lunch specials, plus more Americanized items. Vegans & vegetarians note, you will not find much here to your liking. Pretty much everything on the menu has at least cheese on it, and half of things have some meat, mostly pork products. They also have curried patties similar to what you'd find in Ireland/England, which were ok, but VERY greasy. Also are a small variety of British/Irish canned goods, which were interesting, to say the least.

Again, thank you local Yelpers for pointing me here when I was in the area yesterday looking for a quick bite. Any place that can go between Irish and Mexican food like this is a unique find for sure. I love both styles of food, and can never find enough good Irish fare around these parts except on St Patty's Day. It's nice to know that a fix is so close by. I went for a basic Irish bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a bagel with home fries. Very good sandwich, and excellent home fries perfectly seasoned. You know you've found a good place when the home fries are perfect, because not every place gets them right. I wish parking was better and the place was less cramped, but that's just the area I suppose. Previous reviewers were right as the proprietors here are very friendly. I'll be back, because I really have to try the Huevos Rancheros.
(4)Jack B.
Irish breakfast? Could of fooled me! This place has the best Mexican breakfast food around!!! Which shouldn't surprise anyone since the cook is Mexican. Be careful ordering anything that has 'spicy' in the description. That stuff is HOT; the 'hot' is 5-alarm HOT. The coffee is excellent and the service is quick. I would give 5 stars but the ambience is lacking. The lighting is poor and there are no other windows except for the front one. Also, the parking is a problem because Garrett Rd has meters and it's narrow and very busy.
(4)German S.
Mmmm....Ohh yeah..mmmm...delicious Irish breakfast. Folks this is as close as I have found to the true Irish breakfast. It brings back memories of the such great time I had in Ireland. Live this gem of an eatery
(4)Becca -N- Drew F.
I have to admit I never would have eaten here if not for the great Yelp reviews. Now it is one of my favorite places to eat. Thanks Yelp!!! This is a charming little neighborhood gem. You can get some awesome lunch or breakfast here. The Irish breakfast specials have hearty portions and will fill up even the hungriest of eaters. The Old Sod Burger is a favorite it is a cheeseburger with Irish bacon and fried onions. It doesn't sound like anything special on paper just order one and thank me later. The service is good. The place is small so your server is never far from you and they are always very friendly and nice.

If you have Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) you are going to be in heaven here! Hibernia is the classical Latin name for the island of Ireland so this place is most known for its Irish food but it's owned by a Mexican family so that cuisine is also served here. Of course it's in the good old USA so American staples are represented as well. I know it sounds crazy but it works. This place reminds me of the beginning of countless jokes. "An Irishman, a Mexican, and an American walk into a ........" Actually you can have a fine breakfast here with enough variety to satisfy almost everyone and that's not a joke. The lovely wife and I showed up about 11 am today (Sunday) and this tiny place was packed with a line to the door. We waited about ten minutes for a seat. Just about all the seats are small booths for four. If you show up with a larger group you're in trouble. The place is a little bit divey but it's clean. If it's Irish you want all the staples are here. You've got your black & white pudding, Irish bacon, fried breads, sausage, beans, etc. You can order an Irish breakfast in either a small or large version and sample most of it. On the American side my wife ordered a Jalapeno Omelet for $7.99. It was large and well-cooked and came with a mountain of home fries. It contained several veges and also some small pieces of bacon. She found it good but not great as it seemed to be light on the fillings. Now for a Mexican choice. I went with the Huevos ala Mexicana with Chorizo and jalapeño for $8.99. It was a spicy Mexican scramble and came with rice and beans. It was excellent and a very large portion. Note- My meal was a special. If you want a full Mexican menu you need to ASK FOR IT. Before I forget, we shared a homemade grilled raisin scone that was OMG delicious! Service could have been better today. We waited over twenty five minutes for our food. It was tough to get refills on water and coffee. At one point my slightly frustrated wife actually got up and refilled her own coffee. One the plus side the two young women that served us were very nice. Within about a ten minute drive I can find breakfast in several other places. Would I come here again, absolutely? Would I call it a destination restaurant for breakfast, probably not?
(3)Scott J.
A great local breakfast spot that seems to be run by Mexicans but has an Irish theme. All in all the food is great and made fresh with a courteous staff. If your party is bigger than 4 you may have a problem. Parking is easy with a lot across the street which is free on Sundays. They offer a bunch of soda options made with real sugar not corn syrup. Take out is an option as well.
(3)Tim S.
I wanted to like this place, but didn't. Apparently, they used to have an extensive Mexican breakfast menu. Not any more. Now it is just standard breakfast fare. The meal was unfortunately sub par. The home fries tasted like they were microwaved. No flavor. The service was OK. I had to call out for a waitress to get a check so I could leave.
(2)Nancy W.
Who in a million years would have thought we'd have an outstanding Mexican breakfast at an Irish cafe. We had the huevos rancheros, which were quite possibly the best I ever had. The service was stellar. Fast, friendly, accommodating. I gave 5 stars because I enjoyed everything. People knock the ambiance but you have to consider the context. This doesn't claim to be a fancy place. It's a neighborhood joint!!
(5)Francis O.
Not an every day kind of place, food this good can kill you, but what a way to go. It's booths only, a tight fit for us larger customers, but we didn't get large passing up food this good. Quick friendly service, and a meal that makes you think your Gram is still around, and she thinks you're too skinny.
(5)Jill J.
I can get Mexican food, or traditional Irish food...or both at the same time?? This is a family run shop in Drexel Hill, serving up only the best. There are always specials on the board, and the menu has so much to offer. I always end up getting an omelet with jalapenos and a side of rice and beans. I was on an Irish breakfast kick for a while, which consisted of the most delicious breads, blood pudding, and a nice fat tomato. They also offer fresh breads at the counter, various dry and canned goods, and the best candies. If you're in the neighborhood, stop by! They even offer your basic run-o-the mill sandwich for that picky eater type.
(5)Aurora C.
Try this place this morning, based on the positive reviews on Yelp, and the reviews my boyfriend gave it (he orders lunch from here frequently). I got the eggs and American bacon, homefries and toast. It was delicious. The bacon was perfectly cooked. The wait staff was friendly. And if not for the fact that I am doing Weight Watchers right now (although you'd never guess it from my choice of breakfast foods), i would have left with a bunch of cadbury products (especially the flake bars, which I haven't had since I was in Ireland.) We will definitely be back soon!
(5)Elizabeth P.
My boyfriend and I LOVE this place! We try to come here at least twice a month. He is from Ireland and says that their breakfasts are the closest to home he's had since living here. The owners are so friendly and personable and you can really tell that they love what they are doing. The Irish breakfasts are delicious, but so is the chicken salad sandwich, its so simple but so good... I always get it with bacon added. My boyfriend loves their curry chips and also any of the Mexican specials they have (with their homemade salsa of course)- really really tasty! This place is definitely not what you expect from the outside but I think there's something for everyone... definitely check it out if you're in the mood for a hearty breakfast! Or any Irish candies/treats since they sell a variety of those items too!
(5)Garth D.
Solid breakfast spot! The Irish breakfast might be the best hangover remedy on the planet
(4)Lewin B.
I go to this place as often as I can. The food is exceptionally good and the the owners are some of nicest people you'll ever meet. You cannot go wrong with the "old sod burger" it is phenomenally good. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!
(5)Nic W.
This place is kind of a dive and not particularly clean-looking, but I give them points for stocking specialty products. The food was so-so.
(3)Rory K.
Fantastic menu and service every day. Make sure to check out the chalk board for daily specials.
(4)Jennifer J.
Pretty good breakfast and European chocolates/candies...think Cadbury brand.
(2)Kirstyn E.
Love this place. Everything they make is good. My fav being their Mexican breakfast burrito w their homemade Mexican salsa. My dog stole half of it last time so I'm ordering another one today and eating it all to my face!
(5)Cat K.
We have been going here for years with consistently excellent food and service! We have been in with 12+ people and i have gone in by myself. Homemade curry chips with some fried eggs and black &white pudding is my standard- sometimes i go for an ulster fry or huevos while my husband opts for the full Irish. I LOVE that when i order tea hear i get a big pot for the table. also they have a great selection of Irish takeaways. When we look at each other and try to decide where to go for breakfast this is always top of the list.
(5)Kevin H.
Best breakfast sandwich I ever had! I have a routine that I follow on Saturdays. I go to Tommy D Barber which is across the street for a great barber haircut with a lot of free laughs at a reasonable price. I then get an awesome breakfast sandwich across the street from Hibernia. Two local small town businesses that offer untouchable service and products.
(5)Evann G.
From the outside, definitely not the type of place I would have tried had it not been for Yelp. But that's why you don't judge a book by its cover. This Irish coffee shop is an incredible place to get breakfast and I'm so glad we live near it. Both Irish options and American options are offered. I get the former, the husband gets the latter. Both are great. I highly recommend the Ulster Fry. It's worth it for the fried pancake alone, but the Irish bacon is also a taste sensation and the three or four other types of fried bread that come with it are pretty incredible. If you don't mind using up your entire carb intake for the week in one day, of course! Service is nice too. Last time I ordered the Ulster Fry with Irish bacon substituted for Irish sausage, the waitress said yes. She later came back and said substitutions weren't actually allowed... but the cooks made it for me with bacon instead of sausage anyway. Tea is good too, of course, and I love all the Irish goodies you can buy in the store portion.

I've been to Hibernia about 3 times now, 1 with my gf, and 2x with my Mom. My Mom and I really enjoyed the first time as we both had the Irish breakfast with sausage (me) and bacon (her). We are both big coffee drinkers and very critical, but we were completely satisfied with the temperature and freshness of the coffee they serve. Ditto for the time I went with my gf-she is a fan of this place as well. The service is very good, as they aren't very busy when I have stopped in. Only problem I ran into is when I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap with a choice of mayo or honey mustard. I received the buffalo chicken wrap smothered in BBQ sauce. The wrap was great, minus the globs of BBQ sauce. I told the waitress they gave me the wrong sauce and she was very puzzled. I even pointed to her on the menu. She was nice about it as well as the other lady when I explained, but they were still dumbfounded by the mix-up. Oh well, not a great concern, they are still one of the better places to eat cheaply in the delco area. I recommend.
(4)Nicki A.
These guys have great breakfast! I love their breakfast sandwiches and home fires. The people are always pleasant too.
(5)Gerry O.
Oh no. There's now a small coffee shop within walking distance of our home that stocks every conceivable variety of Cadbury chocolate, fresh scones, and Dairygold Irish butter. There goes my cholesterol count... This is a simple, unhurried neighborhood eatery with deli counters, griddles and comfortable booths reminiscent of the luncheonettes of my youth. The coffee is just right, although nothing special. Attentive service and endless refills make up for the lack of sparkle and oomph in their java, though. You'll enjoy the French toast which tastes and feels like it's made from a good egg-batter bread like challah. Their breakfasts have substance to them, and it helps that they cook them with Dairygold butter -- a boutique spread you typically find only in high-scale venues like Wegman's and Whole Foods. Using Irish butter makes even a simple side order of scrambled eggs taste special. The Hibernia stocks and sells Dairygold, as well as Irish teas (Barry's and Lyons in a startling array of varieties for a small shop), which makes this more than a simple lunch counter. I now know where I'll be doing Christmas shopping for my native Irish friends. What sets the Hibernia apart from other local establishments like Ming's (still our favorite) is that they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and have a menu befitting a much larger diner. They even deliver. The Hibernia isn't much to look at from the outside. It's in a somewhat down-in-the-mouth strip of stores on Garrett Road within striking distance of the Wawa and Farm Fresh Produce (known to locals as the Italian market) at the intersection of Garrett and Burmont. My family and I walked or drove by this little place for two years before we found the time and the will to venture inside, and now we're very glad that we did.
(4)Jimmi S.
Pretty good food. Good service and freindly people. Had a great Irish breakfast for brunch. They sell Irish goods, too like Lyon's Tea and brown bread. Don't know if this will be there for too long. I overhead a customer talking to the owner saying he was selling the place.

Two local small town businesses that offer untouchable service and products.

These guys have great breakfast! I love their breakfast sandwiches and home fires. The people are always pleasant too.

I go to this place as often as I can. The food is exceptionally good and the the owners are some of nicest people you'll ever meet. You cannot go wrong with the "old sod burger" it is phenomenally good. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

This place is kind of a dive and not particularly clean-looking, but I give them points for stocking specialty products. The food was so-so.

Pretty good food. Good service and freindly people. Had a great Irish breakfast for brunch. They sell Irish goods, too like Lyon's Tea and brown bread. Don't know if this will be there for too long. I overhead a customer talking to the owner saying he was selling the place.

One of the best, filling breakfasts I've ever had in the U.S. Don't let the exterior and location (a pretty quiet, unassuming block) full you. This place is the real deal.

Even though it was lunch time, I chose Colcannon & Bangers from the Dinner Special section of the menu, I was really hungry. It was excellent. I get breakfast sandwiches from here regularly, they have never disappointed. Highly recommended.
